RANGELEY LAKES SNOWMOBILE CLUB

NEWSLETTER

December 2001

RLSC Newsletter Past Issues

Well, here it is December already!! Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. It sure hasn’t felt like December weather lately.  What started out looking like an early winter has turned around and it’s been feeling like Spring lately. The bugs even returned! However, the latest weather forecast is predicting snow and colder weather – finally!!!

At our November meeting, we elected a new President and Vice President.  Clark Allen is our new President and Alan Whitford replaces him as Vice President. The Club has a new Safety Officer also.  Paul Leblanc has volunteered for this position. Paul will be coordinating safety programs and classes for safe riding. Paul is also interested in organizing a “club ride” with a possible cookout.  If anyone might be interested in such a ride, please let us know. This sounds like a lot of fun!!!

Attendance at the November meeting was great!! There were about 50 people there and it was an awesome meeting. The food was excellent – again, prepared by Linda Whitford. The crescent rolls were still missing though! Did you drop them in the driveway again Linda? We will get to try them sometime, I am sure!

November Easy Bucks winners were Ed Collins and Robert Lynch. Neither were present.

There is no membership meeting in December.  The Christmas party will be held on December 15th and invitations were sent out with the last newsletter.  We hope to see you all there.  Make sure you send in your reservation if you plan to be at the buffet dinner.  Peoples Choice needs a count to prepare the proper amount of food. If you can’t attend the dinner and party, don’t forget to send in your 50/50 tickets.   This drawing usually brings some lucky winner around $1000.00 and who couldn’t use that at Christmas time!!! The December Easy Bucks Drawing will be held at the party.  As always, at the Christmas Party, we collect donations of non-perishable foods and toys and deliver them to the local food pantry and “The Giving Tree”.  Both of these organizations supply needy families with items and it is our way of saying “thanks” to the community for supporting the club – so if you are planning to attend the party, please consider bringing an item for this important cause.

A ribbon cutting ceremony was held at the new Magalloway River Bridge, now known as “Clark’s Crossing”,  on November 15th.  Bob Meyers from the Maine Snowmobile Association and Scott Ramsay from the Maine Department of Conservation, Snowmobile Division, along with reporters from the Portland Maine Sunday Telegram and the Rangeley Highlander attended along with a few club members. Some of you may have seen the articles in these newspapers.

The Club has been fortunate to have many volunteers this year helping with brush cutting and clearing the trails in preparation for the season. The names of all volunteers will be listed in next month’s newsletter.  Thanks to all who have helped!!!

The Snodeo Committee is hard at work making arrangements and plans for “Snodeo 2002”.  The agenda will be much the same as last year with the possible addition of an antique snowmobile show. Alan Whitford is trying to pull this together – more on this in the January newsletter.  As soon as the agenda is finalized, it will be posted on our web page.

With this newsletter you will find raffle tickets (again!). This one is for an Arctic Cat ZR120 snowmobile.  The proceeds from this raffle will be spent on trail maintenance and grooming so please consider buying them. This is an important fundraiser for the club. Also, there must be a child in your life that you could make very happy with this sled! You can’t win it if you don’t buy a ticket. Thank you and GOOD LUCK!

Also enclosed for your information is some important information regarding riding on lakes and wind chills.  Remember always – SAFETY FIRST!

The new trail maps will be ready soon.  They will be available at local businesses or you can order one by writing to the club at the above address.

Please send in your membership renewal soon if you haven’t done so already.   We are trying to maintain the status of “#1 Club in the State of Maine” and this is determined by the number of members in each club. We have held this trophy for the past four years and certainly would like to make it five!  If you know of anyone who enjoys our trails here in Rangeley and doesn’t belong to the club, please encourage them to join. The proceeds from membership fees is  one of the things that keeps the club going.

Well, I guess that’s all for now – I encourage everyone to do a snow dance or any other voodoo to bring on winter weather.

Hope to see you all December 15th!   Have a safe and Merry Christmas!!

Gail Gavigan, Secretary
