RANGELEY LAKES SNOWMOBILE CLUB

NEWSLETTER

February 2001

RLSC Newsletter Past Issues

Hope everyone is enjoying the snowmobiling season this year.  Our trails are in excellent condition.  We have heard only good comments regarding the conditions here in the Rangeley area.  Let’s hope for a good rest of the season and more snowfall!

Snodeo was very successful this year.  The weather was perfect for all activities, attendance was very good and all appeared to have a great time.  The fireworks were exceptional  and Mike Koob’s snowmobile ice sculpture float was a beautiful added attraction to the parade.  Great job!  Snowmobile manufacturers, (Ski-Doo, Polaris and Yamaha) were here in full force and gave demo rides on Friday and Saturday.

Thanks to everyone who donated their time to help out with Snodeo.  A special thank you to Joan and Gary Leiper, club members from Rhode Island, who put a great deal of time into organizing the radar run.  Joan and Gary have been doing this for years and without their expertise it would be difficult to run this event.  We don’t realize how much “behind the scenes” work goes into these activities.  Radar Run Results are listed at the end of this newsletter.

Easy Bucks Winners at the January meeting were Scott Morton and Michael Ceredona.  Neither were present so they won $50 each.  Congratulations!

Aleta Rioux, Vice President, Western Region of the Maine Snowmobile Association attended our January meeting and presented the RLSC with a trophy and a check in the amount of $125.00 for third place in Super Raffle Ticket sales.  Thanks everyone for your help in selling these tickets.  Maybe we can try to reach first place next year.  The first place prize is $500.

Included with this newsletter is a bulletin issued by the Town of Rangeley.  Please take time to read this and make a note of the procedures you need to follow if you are involved in a snowmobile accident or arrive upon the scene of an accident out on the trails.  It is wise to carry a cell phone with you when riding and remember the numbers to call in an emergency.  This procedure could save lives. Take notice of the blue Rescue Zone signs when you are riding and remember which zone you are in.  The Rangeley Snowmobile Club certainly appreciates the efforts of Jim Quimby, Parks & Rec Director for the Town of Rangeley, and the Rangeley Fire and Rescue Departments for their work putting up the Rescue Zone signs and marking the trails.

The February meeting of the Rangeley Lakes Snowmobile Club will be held on February 10th at the Episcopal Church Undercroft on Main Street in Rangeley.  Social hour starts at 5:30 PM, dinner at 6:30 PM and business meeting to follow dinner.  The meal will be home-cooked and served by the senior class of Rangeley High School and the proceeds will benefit their Project Graduation. The Senior Class provided our meal for the January meeting and they did an excellent job.

The annual RLSC February dance will be held on February 24th with the band “Sofa Kings” playing.  The winning ticket for the Polaris 120 will be drawn at this event.  Don’t forget to mail in your raffle tickets. If you need more tickets, please write to the club at the above address.

Those of you who have not renewed your membership for this year will receive a renewal form with this newsletter.  This will definitely be your last newsletter unless you send in your renewal form.  Please don’t let this happen.  We would like to keep our Club’s #1 in the State of Maine status.
