We are at the height of snowmobiling
season and conditions here in Rangeley are superior at the present
time. We recently got a couple of 6 to 7 inch snowfalls and that was
just enough to improve the trails to perfect condition. Mother Nature
decided to be nice to us after a few weeks of no snowfall. Actually,
the riding has been good here all winter, but this new snow has made
them excellent. Come to Rangeley and enjoy the conditions. Winter
goes by too fast - we have to take advantage of the great trails while
we have them.
Snodeo was, once again, a great
success despite the brutally cold temps we had that weekend. Thanks
to the Rangeley Inn for putting up with us for Snodeo Weekend.
Without the Inn's cooperation, Snodeo would have been cancelled due to
lack of a facility to hold the event. I hope everyone who attended
Snodeo had a great time and that you are planning to return next
year. Snodeo will be held on January 20, 21 and 22, 2005. It's not
too early to make your reservations.
The 50/50 raffle was won by David
Arthurs of Rangeley. Mr. Arthurs is a new member of the RLSC and the
winning ticket was one that was mailed out with the newsletter. So,
that goes to show, you don't need to be present to win and it pays to
buy the tickets we send out. This 50/50 is always huge - he won
$770. Congratulations!!!!!!
The winner of the Polaris 500 Classic
Snowmobile that was raffled off by the Club was Robert Bugdin, a club
member from Aquebogue, New York. Congratulations, Robert! The club
made a profit of $6,472.10 on this raffle. I would call this a
successful fundraiser and we will most certainly, be doing this again
next year.
Several snowmobiles were stolen during
Snodeo weekend. They were all left sitting with keys in the ignition
switch. Please remember to take your key out of your machine. It
just makes it much easier for someone to hop on the machine and take
off with it and it's almost an invitation for a thief. We hope the
stolen machines have been recovered by now.
Many, many thanks to all the
volunteers who helped out with Snodeo events. A lot of work and time
goes into making this event successful and we certainly do appreciate
everyone's help. We couldn't do it without all of you.
The weekend following Snodeo, the
Busch North people were in town for their annual Poker Run. Joe
Bessey, organized a radar run using the same track we had used for
Snodeo and donated all of the proceeds from the radar run to the
Club. Thanks Joe!
This is another fun event you should
try to take in next year. It was a great time and the entertainment
was excellent on Saturday evening. Proceeds from their auction were
donated to Maine Muscular Dystrophy.
The February meeting of the RLSC will
be held on February 14th at the Rangeley Region Guides and
Sportsman's Club House in Oquossoc. Dinner will be served at 6:30 PM
followed by the meeting. Sandi Dumont and Judy Waterman are preparing
the meal and I have been told they will be serving lasagna and all the
fixin's. YUM!!
Due to logging operations, we have had
to re-route ITS 89 from Rangeley to Eustis. Please be aware of this,
watch for signs.
Well, I guess that's all for now.
Let's hope for another two months or so of great riding...... Take
advantage of the super conditions we have now. Winter goes by too
fast, before we know it, we'll be putting the groomers away and
dealing with the black flies again.
Until Next Month......
