This has been a strange winter so far! The
weather has not cooperated with us at all. Hopefully the months of
February and March will improve. It’s going to be a short snowmobile
season so let’s make the most of it and ride, ride, ride!!!!
January Easy Bucks winners were Don Beauregard
of Millbury, Mass. and Robert Reynolds of Billerica, Mass. Neither
were present.
Our February meeting will be held on February
11th at the Church of the Good Shepherd on Main Street in
Rangeley. Again this month, the Rangeley Class of 2010 and their
parents are preparing the meal. Let’s show up and support them – they
always do a great job. The meal is at 6:30 PM and the meeting
follows.
The March membership meeting will be held on
March 18th at the Church of the Good Shepherd on Main St.
This will be our second annual steak and lobster dinner meeting.
Registration sheets are enclosed with this newsletter and it is
important that you sign up in advance. We must know the numbers we
need to order a week in advance and we cannot take any reservations
after the deadline. If snow conditions are good, we are planning some
events for that day – maybe a poker run and a club ride. We will know
by the time the March newsletter goes out. We are in the preliminary
stages of planning for this day. We need volunteers to help out with
any events we do and if we can’t get them, it won’t happen.
Snodeo was successful despite the Spring-like
weather we had that weekend. Attendance was down a bit but we hope
everyone had a great time anyway. The Pyrotechnics found it necessary
to cancel the fireworks due to the heavy rain in the late afternoon
and then the strong winds that evening. They will be back next year
and promise a great show. We know a lot of people were disappointed
that the fireworks were cancelled but Mother Nature refused to
cooperate with us. The past two years were so cold during Snodeo that
everyone was miserable and this year it felt like Spring. We can do a
lot to improve what we do but when it comes to Mother Nature, there is
no controlling her. Results of the radar run, poker run, etc. are on
the web site. If you wish to receive a printed copy, please write to
us at the club address and we will send it out to you. The 50/50
drawing netted the winner $1200 this year. Congratulations to the guy
who won it. We didn’t get his name.
The Polaris snowmobile was won by Mary Ellen
Long of Sandy River Plantation. Congratulations! Now that we have
snow we hope you are enjoying your new sled!
Remember when riding this year, The State of
Maine has a new law and the wardens are watching for offenders. The
law states that snowmobilers must stay to the right on the trail
(makes sense!). There is ice under the snow and it’s easy to wander
to the wrong side of the trail, especially on corners. This is
extremely dangerous. You never know when someone is coming the other
way. Please ride with caution and slow down on the corners. We have
had a few accidents this year – let’s make the rest of the season
accident-free. Also, if you are on the lake be aware of the pressure
ridges out there. There is usually water around the ridges and it is
wise to stay away from them.
Well, it looks like a great day for a
snowmobile ride – it was a long time coming but the snow is finally
here!
Until next month,
Gail
Gavigan, Secretary
Please
visit our Sponsors page to check out businesses who have donated
or pledged to donate to our grooming and
trail maintenance program for this season. Be sure
to patronize these businesses when in the area. It is due to their donations that we have the great riding conditions we
all enjoy!
The following members have
mailed in donations to help pay the additional cost of groomer fuel:
David Lucas,
Robert Winsor, Robert Haase, George Gardner, William Carpenter, Ed
Chapman, Rick Angelo, Brendan Brewer, Paul & Leslie
