RANGELEY LAKES SNOWMOBILE CLUB

NEWSLETTER

January 2001

Return to RLSC Newsletter Past Issues

Well, here it is 2001 already! The past year sure did fly by. HAPPY NEW YEAR TO EVERYONE! May it be a safe, healthy and prosperous year for all of you.

Congratulations to Geraldine Bush of Rangeley who won the giant 50/50 raffle drawn at the Christmas Party. Geraldine won $1,035.00!! Mrs. Bush was also the first winner of our Easy Bucks drawings this year. I think she might be wise to buy some Megabucks lottery tickets. Lucky Lady!!

Easy Bucks Winners at the December meeting (Christmas party) were Jerry Bunker and James Rogers. Neither were present so they won $50 each. Congratulations!

The Town of Rangeley, the Rangeley Lakes Snowmobile Club, the business community, and surrounding communities have lost one of their finest. Steve Bean was killed in a plane crash on December 22nd. Steve was on the Board of Directors for the RLSC. He will be missed by all. Our condolences to the Bean family.

The agenda for Snodeo is enclosed with this newsletter. Snodeo is shaping up to be the best yet! Three major snowmobile manufacturers are coming to Rangeley for Snodeo with their new models to give demo rides. The dealers will be set up in the field next to the Rangeley Inn. Please stop by and welcome them, take a ride on one of their machines, and urge them to return next year.

This is an important part of Snodeo and we would like the manufacturer's representatives to return year after year.

A Snodeo agenda is attached. You will notice the addition of a snow sculpture contest. The contestants will be students of the Rangeley School district. We need judges. We would like some of our club members from out of town to be on the judging panel. Please let Gail know by writing to the club address if you are interested in being on the judging panel. I think this would be fun for some of our out-of-town members and will take very little time out of your weekend. The sculptures will be judged on Saturday afternoon.

Also, we still need volunteers to help with the radar run. Please consider an hour or two of your time.

The riding is excellent after the New Years Weekend snowstorm. People have been riding on the lake, but it is recommended that you check the ice thickness before venturing across. It may be wise to stay close to shore for the next couple weeks. Remember, safety first!!

The January meeting of the Rangeley Lakes Snowmobile Club will be held on January 13th at the Episcopal Church Undercroft on Main Street in Rangeley. Social hour starts at 5:30 PM, dinner at 6:30 PM and business meeting to follow dinner. The meal will be home-cooked and served by the senior class of Rangeley High School and the proceeds will benefit their Project Graduation. This is a great way for one organization to benefit another. They are providing the meal for the club members and in turn, we are helping them raise money for their cause. Hope to see you there!

Don't forget to mail in your raffle tickets for the Polaris 120 snowmobile that will be raffled off in February. If you are' here for Snodeo, you can check out the machine. It is on display at People's Choice Restaurant.

There are quite a number of members from last year who haven't renewed their Memberships for this year. This will be your lost newsletter unless your renewal comes in by February 1st. A reminder will be sent out to everyone before they are removed from the mailing list.

The new trail maps are in and are for sale at local businesses. You can receive a map by writing to the club at the above address. The cost is $5, plus $1 postage.

Here in the Rangeley area, we are very fortunate to have landowners who realize the importance of snowmobiling to the economy. These landowners very graciously give us permission to ride on their property. Please remember to be responsible and respect their property. Do not leave trash behind. It's just as easy to carry your trash out as it is to carry it in. Also, always ride on marked trails. It makes sense to keep the landowners happy so they won't take the privilege away fro m us.

Have you visited our web site yet? It's very impressive, thanks to Linc Avery who created the page for us. Please check it out and get your name on there under "members area". The web page address is on the heading of this newsletter.

We look forward to seeing you at Snodeo. Hopefully, Mother Nature will cooperate and we'll have "ideal weather conditions" for Snodeo. See you there!
