RANGELEY LAKES SNOWMOBILE CLUB

NEWSLETTER

March 2001

RLSC Newsletter Past Issues

There is still plenty of snow in this area and the riding is still very good.  This is the time of year when you start thinking about how many weeks there are left for good riding for the season.  We all know that a few warm days and a good rainstorm could end snowmobiling for the year in a heartbeat!  With that in mind, think about coming to Rangeley for a few good rides before the season ends.  We are still getting below freezing temps every night.  The groomers will be out there on their regular schedule as long as the budget allows or until conditions deteriorate to the point where grooming can no longer be done.

Please note that the trail leaving People’s Choice Restaurant  will be closed on March 4th from 5:00 AM until 2:00 PM.  The Rangeley Cross Country is hosting a New England X-C Ski Marathon here in Rangeley on that day and the Rangeley Lakes Snowmobile Club is closing this trail to accommodate the skiers and avoid interference with snowmobiles.   The trail will be blocked off at People’s Choice Parking Lot, at Round Pond and at Dodge Pond.  Thank you for your cooperation.

Easy Bucks winners at the February meeting were Brad Nystrom from Seekonk, Mass. And Vince Banaitis from Rangeley.  Neither were present so the prizes were $50 each. Congratulations to both of you!

Congratulations to Jim Jannace of Rangeley!  Jim won the Polaris 120 snowmobile.  The drawing was held on Saturday, February 24th.

This has been a banner  season for us this year, so far, in the way of few accidents.  Any accidents that have been reported to date have been minor with no serious injuries.  Let’s keep it up!   Hopefully, this is an indication that snowmobilers are becoming more safety-conscious  and riding sensibly.

The next membership meeting will be held on March 10th at the Episcopal Church Undercroft on Main Street  in Rangeley.  We have had very disappointing attendance this year.  The Senior Class of Rangeley High School has provided us with meals at our last two meetings and will again on March 10th.  They have done a super job, the food has been great.  Please try to attend the meeting if you are in the Rangeley area.  The Seniors and the club both need your support.  You won’t be disappointed with the meal.  Social hour starts at 5:30 PM, dinner at 6:30 and the meeting starts at 7:30.  Our meetings don’t usually last more than 1 ½ hrs.  Please come and meet us - we would love to meet our members!

With the season winding down, there is little news at this time.  The trails are still great!  We’re hoping for another month of good riding in this area and we hope you will be in the area to enjoy it with us.

Remember always - safety first!
