RANGELEY LAKES SNOWMOBILE CLUB

NEWSLETTER

March 2002

RLSC Newsletter Past Issues

Hello again!  I hope you have all enjoyed your winter so far.  We haven’t had much snow this year, however, the grooming crews have been doing a fantastic job keeping the trails in good condition.   Thanks guys!!!

As you all know, since the radar run was cancelled during Snodeo due to unsafe ice conditions, we decided to have a one-day “mini-Snodeo” on February 23rd.    Attendance at this event was very good  and we made up the lost radar run revenues.  The trails were in good shape and everyone attending seemed to have a great time.  It was a lot of work done by a few people but it was worth it.  Thanks so much to everyone who helped make this one-day event a success.  Results of the radar run, obstacle course race, and the poker run from February 23rd are posted on the SNODEO section.

The ZR 120 snowmobile raffle was won by Cathy Fitzgerald of Scarborough, Maine.  Cathy has two children - I’m sure they will enjoy the snowmobile.  Congratulations!

John Ayer of Yarmouth, Maine won the 50/50 raffle ($435) and donated it back to the RLSC club’s building fund – for the future club house. Thanks John!

Linda Whitford and Daphne Scribner prepared the dinner for the February membership meeting.   The meal was fried turkey and all the fixin’s.  It was delicious and Linda redeemed herself – the home made crescent rolls were there and the were scrumptious!!  Thanks Linda and Daphne.

The March membership meeting will be held on March 9th and PLEASE TAKE NOTE.  The dinner will be held in Oquossoc at the Rangeley Guides and Sportsman’s Club House.  As usual, social hour at 5:30, dinner at 6:30, meeting follows dinner.  To get there you go to Oquossoc on Route 4, past Oquossoc Marine and look for the Old Skiway Road on the left.  We will have the club sign set at the road entrance.  The building is on the right hand side of the Old Skiway Road.  Last month I sent out  RSVP forms to be returned if you plan to attend the dinner.  However, I neglected to list choices.  Daphne and Charlie need to know how many lobsters and steaks to order.  I am enclosing another form with this newsletter – please return them or email us at the address below if you plan to attend.  To those of you who have already replied, I will send the form with a postage paid envelope so you can order your meal.  It is very important that you make a reservation for the dinner.  If you don’t and you decide to go to the dinner, there may not be a meal for you.

Mother nature finally gave us a good winter storm this week.  We have new snow, about 10 inches.  Better get out there and enjoy it because it may not be here long.   I hear that warm temperatures and rain are predicted for the next week.  I think someone did a rain dance instead of a snow dance.

As many of you know, we have changed the date for SNODEO weekend for next year.  SNODEO will be held the last full weekend in January, 2003.  (January 23rd – 26th).  We changed the date in hopes that the lake will be safe for the radar run and also so that our event won’t interfere with Martin Luther King weekend.  The local businesses requested that we do this so that they may have two good weekends instead of one and we try to help them as much as we can.  The local businesses do support our grooming program in a big way!  Without their contributions, we would have very limited grooming funds.

We have t-shirts and hats for sale to raise money for the trail fund.  The Building Fundraising Committee also has hats, t-shirts and sweatshirts for sale to raise money for the future clubhouse.  If you want further information, please contact me either through our website address or by mail.  The items are all very nice and very reasonably priced.

We are looking for ideas to raise money for the clubhouse.  If anyone has any or if you would like to be on the building committee, please let us know.  Any ideas or suggestions would certainly be welcomed.

Well, I guess that’s all for this month.  When the April newsletter comes out, we will be looking forward to Spring, so get out there and do some riding this month.  It’s almost over!!!!!

Please visit our Sponsors page to check out businesses who have donated or pledged to donate to our grooming and trail maintenance program for this season. Be sure to patronize these businesses when in the area. It is due to their donations that we have the great riding conditions we all enjoy!
