RANGELEY LAKES SNOWMOBILE CLUB

Learn About RLSC NEWSLETTER

November 2006

RLSC Newsletter Past Issues

We’ve got snow on the ground!   Hopefully this is an omen of a snowy winter for the Rangeley area.  On Monday, October 23rd, we got about 7 inches of snow, it sure looked like January around here.   Keep your eye on the web cam (you can link to the camera from our web page).  This is your sure way to see what the weather is like in Rangeley.

The November membership meeting of the RLSC will be held at the Church of the Good Shepherd (Episcopal Church) on Main Street in Rangeley on November 11th.    Social hour will be at 5:30, dinner at 6:30 and the meeting will follow.   Dinner will be potluck, bring your favorite dish to share with others

Easy Bucks winners for September and October were Vincent Banaitis, Colleen Dutile, David Wile and Peter VanMater.  Get your entry in for the next drawings.  Two winners are drawn each month at the membership meetings.  You can’t win if you don’t enter.

Thanks to our webmaster, Linc Avery, for replacing the modem in the web cam and getting it up and running again.  Linc has done a superior job maintaining the camera, creating the web page and keeping it updated, driving from Falmouth, Maine to Rangeley to do the maintenance work, donating his time and almost all of the cost.

We attended the snowmobile shows in Augusta and West Springfield, Mass.  Attendance was down at both shows this year.  Just an example of how one bad winter can have a negative impact on our sport.  It will take one or two really good winters to bring back the interest.  Also, the weather was summer-like on both weekends of the shows and I’m sure this kept some people from attending the shows.  Just can’t get in snowmobiling mode when it’s 85 degrees outside.  Thanks to the following volunteers for manning the booths at the shows:  Clark Allen, Matt Kennedy, Gail Gavigan, Vince Banaitis, Mike Cerminara and Marley Briand, Mike and Kathy Espinola and Steve and Mac Dudley.

Enclosed with this newsletter you will find your invitation to our annual Christmas party/dinner.  The party will be held on December 9th this year, a little early, but we’re hoping to avoid conflicts with other parties in the area.  If you wish to attend (and we hope you all do), make sure your reservation is received by the club no later than December 1st.  Also, please bring a donation for The Giving Tree Organization.  This organization collects non-perishable foods such as cereals, canned goods, etc., clothes, toys and such to give to needy families in the Rangeley area.  I have been advised that they are especially in need of items for teens.

If you haven’t made your reservations for Snodeo, (January 18, 19, 20), now would be a good time to make them.  I understand rooms are getting scarce for that weekend already.  If you have never attended Snodeo, you should try to be here.  It’s a great fun weekend.  A  Snodeo agenda will be going out with the December newsletter.

Also enclosed, you will find ten tickets for the giant 50/50 raffle.  The winning number will be drawn at the Christmas party.  If you wish to participate, please fill out the ticket with contact information and mail them back to the club at the address above.  The tickets are $1 each and you do not need to be present to win.  This drawing has always netted the winner between $550 and $800.  Good luck!!

The guys  have been out working on the trails already.  If you have any time to spare, we can use all the help we can get.  There is a lot of work to be done before we can start grooming.  We are always looking for volunteers to cut  and trim brush, work on signing, repair bridges, etc.  If you are interested, please call Clark  Allen at 207-864-9047 or you can contact us through the web page by e-mail.

If you haven’t sent in your membership renewal yet, we urge you to do it as soon as possible.  Your MSA membership expired on September 30th.  You will not have insurance coverage which comes automatically with your membership and you will stop receiving the MSA newspaper which carries a lot of important information each month.  Also, your membership fees are a huge part of our fundraising process to keep the trails in top condition.

Also, remember to send in your MSA super raffle tickets and the tickets we mailed to you for the Arctic Cat we will be giving away in January at Snodeo.  We depend on these fundraisers for trail grooming funds.  You may win!!!  You will never know if you don’t buy a ticket.

Until next month………  Gail Gavigan, Treasurer
