Return to RLSC Newsletter Past Issues

RANGELEY LAKES SNOWMOBILE CLUB

NEWSLETTER

November 2000

It's hard to believe that November is here already - maybe we'll have a good snowfall before the next newsletter is printed.

We drew our first "Easy Bucks" winners at our October meeting. The winners were Geraldine Bush from Rangeley and Gregg Silloway from Falmouth. Congratulations to both!! Neither of them were present so their prize was $50. If they had been at the meeting, they would have won $100. Remember, your number is put back in the tumbler after you win so you could even win twice in the same day!! Get those forms in -and get in on the fun!

We have started our fundraising drive for our trail maintenance and grooming program by mailing out letters to local businesses asking for their support. We are hoping for at least as good a return in donations as we had last season. These donations make up a large part of our operating budget and without them we would not be able to run our program. In turn, we ask that you support these businesses when in the Rangeley area. They also depend on your support for their livelihood during the winter months. Starting with the December newsletter and for the remainder of the season, the list of donors will be included. We also welcome donations in any amount from individuals and these names will also be listed.

The RLSC membership meeting for November will be held at People's Choice on November 11th.  Social hour at 5:30, dinner at 6:30 and the meeting will follow dinner. Also, PLEASE NOTE that due to a scheduling problem, there is a change in the date for the RLSC Christmas Party. The date is December 16th at Peoples Choice. Mark your calendar!!!

At the October MSA meeting, Luke Brochu was awarded the "Landowner of the Year Award". For those of you who don't know Mr. Brochu, he is a major landowner in the Rangeley area and allows our club the use of his property for a large portion of our trails. The new bridge over the Dead River on ITS 89, which was constructed last year, is on Mr. Brochu's property. Congratulations to Mr. Brochu!

At the end of this newsletter, you will see some do's and don'ts for ATV riders. The ATV Club here in Rangeley has requested that we print this. It seems that there have been some riders operating ATV's on snowmobile trails. This is not allowed unless the trail is marked for ATV's. It is possible that a landowner could close their property to snowmobiling due to ATV's riding on the trails. Many of the trails in the Rangeley area are marked for both snowmobiling and ATV riding. If you are interested in joining the local ATV club in the Rangeley area, contact Julie at Rev-It-Up Sports, PO Box 1229, Rangeley, ME 04970. In both snowmobiling and ATV riding, we need to work together to make these outdoor sports a success.

Also enclosed with this newsletter is a flyer regarding a referendum issue on the Maine ballot. The RLSC supports the "no" vote on this referendum. If this issue were to pass on November 7th eventually it would affect snowmobiling in a very negative way. PLEASE, Maine voters, VOTE "NO" on Question 2!!!!

Since the last newsletter was sent out, we have had a good response to the request for help on the trails. Thank you to everyone who has come forth and volunteered their time and labor. Our trailmaster, Clark Allen, has expressed his appreciation to all of you! More on this and a published list of these volunteers will be issued soon. Remember, if you can volunteer some time, even a half-day, call Clark at 207-864-2039. Also, we are still looking for volunteers to work on Snodeo.

Clark reports that we are awaiting delivery of lumber and steel to begin construction of the Magalloway bridge. Some preliminary work has taken place already.

To those of you who have ordered new trail maps, we are still waiting for delivery of the new maps showing changes to the trail system. They will be sent to you as soon as we receive them. You can order a map from the Rangeley Lakes Snowmobile Club, PO Box 950, Rangeley, ME 04970. The cost is $5 plus $1 shipping.

Don't forget to mark your calendar with the change in date for the Christmas party, as mentioned earlier.

Until next month	Think Snow!!!!
