RANGELEY LAKES SNOWMOBILE CLUB

NEWSLETTER

OCTOBER 2000

Fall foliage season is here. It is always beautiful in the Rangeley area, but during foliage season, it is spectacular!! It also means we are one step closer to snowmobile season and that's what we're all about!!

We have a web page!! The address is www.rangeleysnowmobile.com. The page is currently under construction. We are offering a classified page and a "members page". If any of our members wish to be listed on the members page, please let us know. Also, if you have any suggestions for our page we would be interested in hearing from you. The site is being constructed by one of our members, Linc Avery, as a donation, and he is doing a fantastic job. Thanks Linc!

Due to lack of a meeting place on October 14th , our October meeting will be held on October 21st at Peoples Choice Restaurant. Social hour will start at 5:30, dinner at 6:30 and the meeting will start at approximately 7:30 PM. We are still trying to find a place for our November meeting. The December 9th meeting will be held at Peoples Choice and is our annual Christmas Party. The meetings for the months of January, February and March will be held at the Church of the Good Shepherd Undercroft. The senior class of Rangeley High School will be serving dinner at some of our meetings as a means of raising money for their project graduation.

Finding a place to have our meetings this year has been a real problem. There has been talk of the club forming a committee to look into the possibility of obtaining our own clubhouse. Many clubs in Maine do have their own clubhouse and as I'm sure you all know, some of them are very nice. If anyone has any thoughts on this, it would be great to hear from you. With a club the size of RLSC, a clubhouse would be a real asset. There are endless ways this building could be utilized as a way of generating income to pay for it. The first step is finding a location, possible land lease or donation that would be accessible by snowmobile and automobile. As mentioned before, we would appreciate any ideas you may have.

Memberships are coming in every day. We have done very well to date with the Super Raffle tickets. Thanks to everyone for their support! The Easy Bucks raffle is doing well also. Hope to see you at the meetings, remember if you are in attendance and your number is drawn, the prize will be $100 instead of $50. The first drawing will be at the October meeting and drawings will take place at every meeting through June.

All permits are in and work is starting on the Magalloway River Bridge. We sure do need some volunteers to work on this project. Clark is waiting to hear from you. You can reach him either by writing to him at the club address or by phone. His number is (207) 864-2039.

I feel it's time to give recognition the person who is the "backbone" of our snowmobile club - that person is Clark Allen. Clark spends endless hours working on the trails, running around getting permits, taking care of endless details, tying up loose ends, etc. It is impossible to list all of the duties Clark takes care of. It's time for some new blood to step in and do some of this work. It's very discouraging to think that one person has the weight of everything on his shoulders. Where is everyone when it's time to do the work? Without more help, the club will have serious problems in the future. The club is in jeopardy of failure if more members don't step forward and offer their services. One person cannot do all this work.

There will be a few significant changes to the trail system this year due to logging operations. A new map is being printed. Anyone who has ordered a map has been sent last year's map and will be sent a new revised one as soon as we have them. The cost of the maps is $5, plus $1 shipping.

We are looking for volunteers to work on Snodeo. Please contact one of the directors if you can help us in any way.

Mailing address for the club is:
