RANGELEY LAKES SNOWMOBILE CLUB

NEWSLETTER

October 2001

RLSC Newsletter Past Issues

We’ve had our first frost of the season here in the Rangeley area and for us snowmobilers, that was a welcome sight, just a sign of things to come!   We’re looking forward to another great season.

We have great news for our members this month!   Allan and Linda Whitford have moved to Rangeley from Massachusetts.  They purchased the field on Route 4 across from the  Saddleback Motor Inn for a location for Allan’s business, his plans to build an antique snowmobile museum, and he has donated a portion of the land for the club to build a Club House.  This will be a great asset for the RLSC.  It will, however, take a lot of fundraising and hard work.   We believe that once the funds are raised and the building is done, it will support itself by the business generated from serving lunches, etc.  and renting the facility out to other organizations and individuals for parties and functions in our off-season.  The building will also house an office for our club.  That means I can move the “office” out of my living room.    Anyone with any fundraising suggestions, of if you are interested in being on the fundraising committee, please let us know.    The funds for this must be separate from the Club’s funds since our operating budget is stretched to the limit already.

The Magalloway Bridge has been completed!!!  Thanks to Clark Allen for his endless work on the bridge and others who volunteered time and services in this project.  It was a huge project and well done!!!   We need a name for the bridge.  Since Clark has spent so much time on the project, it was suggested that we name the bridge “Clark’s Crossing”.  Any other ideas? Let us know.  A ribbon cutting ceremony will take place after the sign has been erected at the bridge.  Date and time will be posted on the web page.

The State grant has been approved for this season so work can begin on trail improvements any time.  If you are interested in helping out with brush cutting, bridge repairs, or trail maintenance in general, please let us know either through our web page or by contacting  us by mail.

A special thank you to RLSC club member, Jerry Bunker for his donation of 1,000 wooden sign backers for our trail signs.  Jerry has done this for several years and to my knowledge has never been recognized for his donation.  It’s donations like this that make our club successful!

The first Easy Bucks Drawing was held at our September meeting.  Winners were Joseph Fitzgerald and Edwin Collins, both of Rangeley.  Neither was present so they won $50.00 instead of the $100.00 they would have won if they had been at the meeting.   Get your Easy Bucks  Entries in – don’t miss out on your chances of winning!

The October 13th membership meeting will be held at the Congregational Church with social hour at 5:30, dinner at 6:30, meeting at approximately 7:30 PM.   Hope to see you there!

The RLSC will have a booth at the Snowmobile Show to be held this weekend, October 5, 6, and 7th at the Augusta Civic Center.  We will also have a booth at the Massachusetts Snowmobile Show at the Big “E” Fairgrounds in Springfield, Massachusetts  on October 19, 20, and 21.   If you plan to attend the shows, please stop by and visit with us!  We are working really hard to promote snowmobiling in the Rangeley area.

Again this year, we are looking for volunteers to work at Snodeo, and we need volunteers who would be willing to cook a meal for one of our meetings.

Seems like we are asking for volunteers all the time but there are a few members who seem to be doing all the work.  We need help to make this a successful organization.

New trail maps will be available soon and the cost will be $5 each plus $1 for postage – if you would like a  new trail map you can order it anytime and it will be mailed to you as soon as we have them.

Decals, pins, etc. are being mailed out to members who have renewed their memberships for this year.    For the Platinum Club members, the hats haven’t arrived yet, as soon as we receive them, your materials will be sent to you.   If you haven’t mailed your membership renewal in yet, now is the time to do it in order to continue to receive the MSA newspaper.

The Christmas Party date for the RLSC is Decmeber 15th.  The party will be held at People’s  Choice Restaurant.   A buffet dinner will be served with dancing after dinner.  Invitations will be mailed out for this.

Snodeo will be held the weekend of January 17, 18, 19, 2002.  Make your reservations now before everything in town is booked!

Again this year, we are listing sponsors who have donated to our program at the end of the newsletter.  Last season a few members donated and anyone who does so this season will also be listed.

Well, that’s all the news for this month.  Get those snowmobiles ready and think snow!!!

Until next month………

Please visit our Sponsors page to check out businesses who have donated or pledged to donate to our grooming and trail maintenance program for this season.
