RANGELEY LAKES SNOWMOBILE CLUB

NEWSLETTER

September 2002

RLSC Newsletter Past Issues

Well, here it is September already.  Hope everyone had a great summer-time to at least peek at those snowmobiles and start thinking about getting them ready.

Officers elected at the June meeting were:  President, Clark Allen, Sec./Treas., club secretary, Vice Pres., Alan Whitford.

The Board of Directors has voted to trade in the Piston Bully groomer owned by the Club.  Since it was four years old and the warranty had expired and with State funds available for new equipment purchases, it seemed like the time to trade it in for a new one.

Congratulations to David and Kathy Dow of  Quaker Hill, CT. on the birth of twin boys on July 17th.  David and Kathy also have little Kaitlyn, one of our little club members.  Hope to see you at some meetings this winter and meet the newest future snowmobilers.

Enclosed with this newsletter is a sign-up sheet for volunteers.  We need help throughout the season with several events.  Just sign up to take a turn and return the form to the club at the above address. (See the Volunteers section for more details and to sign up - Webmaster)

The RLSC will be attending two snowmobile shows in October.  The first is at the Augusta Civic Center in Augusta, Maine on October 4, 5, and 6.  The second one is the New England Snowmoble Expo held at the "Big E" Exposition Center in West Springfield, Mass. On October 19 and 20.  If you would like to take a turn manning our booth, please let us know.

Our membership meetings are held on the second Saturday of each month, September through June with a social hour at 5:30, dinner at 6:30, meeting follows dinner.  We need volunteers to prepare the meals.  The meetings are held at the  Congregational Church Hall in Rangeley and there is a fully equipped kitchen there to work with.  The club pays for all of the food, all we need is a few hours of your time.  If a few people would volunteer to take a turn, the same people wouldn't have to do it over and over again.  Please consider doing this for one of our meetings.  It's not that much work and can be a lot of fun.

Our first Snodeo Committee meeting will be held on September 10th.  We are hoping to have some new  faces on the committee with some new ideas.  Again, you can sign up on the enclosed volunteer form.

As you probably know, the RLSC received the trophy for "the #1 Club in the State of Maine" again last year.  Hopefully we can keep our membership numbers up there so that the trophy can stay here again next year.  If you have had a family membership in the past which included you, your spouse and children, please consider purchasing two individual memberships.  It's only $10 more.  A family membership counts as one member with the MSA, two individual memberships count as two memberships.  Just a thought to keep our membership numbers up there.

In the very near future, trail preparation will begin to get the trails ready for snow.  This is a lot of work;  cutting brush, signing, haying, seeding, cutting trees that may have blown down in the trail.  We sure could use some help in this area.  If you are interested, please indicate so on the enclosed volunteer form and someone will contact you with times, places, etc. when the work starts.

When you fill out your membership forms, it is very important to include your birthdate and the birthdates of any that you may be covering with dependent insurance.  MSA will return the forms to the club without this information on them.

We will be drawing for Easy Bucks again this year at each meeting.  The form is enclosed just fill it out and return to club.  Remember, you can't win if you don't take the chance.  Also, this is a fundraiser for the club and the proceeds go into our trail maintenance and grooming accounts.

Make sure you check our web page often for latest news and information.  This is probably your best source for trail and weather conditions.

As usual,  the membership packets include the MSA super raffle tickets.  We ask that each member either buy 10 tickets or sell them.  This is one of our biggest fundraisers to support our trail grooming and maintenance program.  Also, you stand a good chance to win some very nice prizes, including one of four snowmobiles!  Please return your ticket stubs to the RLSC at the address on the first page of this newsletter, along with a check made payable to RLSC.  Remember, $1 from every ticket sold stays with the club and is used to help cover the cost of maintaining our trails.  Thanks for helping us with this fundraiser.

We have long-sleeve t-shirts and hats for sale with the club's logo on them.   They are quite nice.  The shirts are $18 and the hats are $15, plus shipping.  You can see these items on our web page.

I would suggest that you make room reservations soon for your visits to Rangeley.  It's better to make your reservations early and avoid disappointment, especially for Snodeo weekend.

Remember-it's never too early to think snow!!!!!  It will be here before we know it (and I can't wait)!!!

Until next month,

Please visit our Sponsors page to check out businesses who have donated or pledged to donate to our grooming and trail maintenance program for this season. Be sure to patronize these businesses when in the area. It is due to their donations that we have the great riding conditions we all enjoy!
