Hope everyone had a great summer! Now it’s time to get down to work
and get those trails ready for the upcoming winter season!
A
lot has taken place since the last newsletter. Clark Allen stepped
down as President of the RLSC and Steve Dudley was elected at the June
meeting. Don Dumont and Gail Gavigan were re-elected as Vice-President
and Secretary/Treasurer. Fortunately for the Club, Clark as elected
to the Board of Directors, so he will continue to provide us with his
years of experience and expertise. Clark accomplished many key
improvements to Club operations and to our trail system as President.
Our “groomer barn: on Loon Lake Road, many miles of permanent
easements for our trails and the bridge over the Magalloway River on
ITS 84W are just some of the major projects he has accomplished.
Thanks Clark.
The
Maine Snowmobile Association voted an increase of $2 for MSA dues.
This means that instead of sending the MSA $10 for each membership, we
now will be sending $12. For this reason, the RLSC voted to increase
our dues by $2 for each membership. (but gas prices are going down!)
Enclosed you will find a Calendar of Events
for the 2007/08 season. More events will be added as the season
progresses. Our membership meetings will be held at the Church of the
Good Shepherd (Episcopal Church) on Main Street in Rangeley again this
year – if there ever is a change in meeting location, you will be
notified. If any of you are interested in getting a group together to
prepare a dinner for one of our membership meetings, we can’t tell you
how much we would appreciate that!
You
will notice on the Calendar of Events that we have changed
Snodeo to the last weekend of January. This
was done in the hope of having more “wintery” weather for Snodeo. The
last couple of years, as you know, the weather hasn’t cooperated with
us.
We
will be attending the Maine Snowmobile Show at the Augusta Civic
Center in Augusta, Maine during the weekend of October 5, 6, and 7,
and the following weekend, October 13th and 14th,
we will be at the New England Snowmobile Expo at the Big E Fairgrounds
in East Springfield, Massachusetts. An added event at the
Massachusetts show is an antique sled exhibition which is expected to
be huge! If you are interested in seeing some old machines in tip-top
condition, you should try to attend the show and please, if you are at
either of the shows, stop by our booth and say “hello”.
The
Christmas party/dinner will be held on December 8th and we
are working on location for this event. An invitation will be sent
out with the October newsletter. This is always a fun event we
would like to see more people attend.
The
RLSC has lost two long-time members and friends. Walter Johnson and
Art Emory passed away this summer. Walter was the father-in-law of
Linc Avery, our webmaster. Our condolences go out to both families.
If
any of you are interested in working on the trails this Fall, or if
you are interested in trail grooming, please contact us. You can call
Steve Dudley at 207-864-5919 or just send the volunteer form back in
the mail and you will be contacted when work parties are scheduled.
We need help trimming brush, throwing brush, clearing rocks, repairing
or replacing bridges, signing, etc. We will have a brief presentation
at our October Club meeting on plans for trail work and trail
changes. There is a lot of work to be done before the trails can be
groomed. We certainly would appreciate your help!
In
closing, we will list items that are enclosed in the membership
renewal packet along with this newsletter:
1.
Membership renewal form. You can make
changes on the pre-printed information or you can use the blank
membership form on the reverse side. Please list your e-mail address
on the form, this will save the club postage if we have any notices we
need to sent out. Your decals, pins, hats, etc. will be mailed to
you.
2.
Volunteer form. Several items are listed on this form that you can
sign up to help with.
3. Calendar of Events. Items will be added
to this calendar and will be posted on our web page and also in the
monthly newsletter.
4. Easy Bucks Form. This is a drawing
which takes place at our membership meetings, September through June.
If we don’t have a meeting for one month, we will draw four numbers at
the next meeting. (There is no September meeting, therefore we will
draw four numbers in October)
5.
Safety Information. We like to enclose a few
safety items each year. Since there is a lot of “lake riding” in the
Rangeley area, it is important to know about ice safety. Also, we do
experience some very cold temperatures in this area and you must be
aware of “chill factor”. The other item is hand signals. Very
important to use these! Let’s ride safe! Maybe we can have an
accident-free winter this season.
6.
Insurance Information. When you join the
snowmobile club, you automatically become a member of the Maine
Snowmobile Association and this insurance is automatic. If you wish
to insure additional dependents, you may do so for only $2; there is
a place on the membership form where you can list the names. Make
sure you include the person’s date of birth.
7. You will find a description of the Arctic Cat snowmobile we are
going to give away to a lucky raffle ticket winner this year at
Snodeo. We are also enclosing three tickets for this raffle. If you
want more tickets or if you have a way you could help us sell them,
please let us know. This sled retails for approximately $7,500.00.
Just send the stubs back to the club address with a check and you will
be in the running to win the sled! Remember, you can’t win it if you
don’t buy a ticket!
Also enclosed, you will find ten MSA Super Raffle Tickets. They are
$2 each with fantastic prizes on the front and back side of the
tickets. The club gets to keep $1 from the sale of each ticket so we
would appreciate it if each member could either buy or sell them.
Return the stubs and a check to us at the club address.
Remember fundraising proceeds are spent directly on trail maintenance
and grooming for your riding enjoyment! Let’s keep our trails the
best in the State of Maine!
The Farmer’s Almanac predicts a cold and snowy winter – Hooray!!!!
Now, let’s just hope they’re right. We deserve a “snowmobile
favorable” winter after the last couple. But for now, let’s just
enjoy the beautiful Fall weather.
Until next month………
Gail
Gavigan
Please
visit our Sponsors page to check out businesses who have donated
or pledged to donate to our grooming and
trail maintenance program for this season. Be sure
to patronize these businesses when in the area. It is due to their donations that we have the great riding conditions we
all enjoy!
