2007-2008 SNOWMOBILE SEASON

!!!TRAILS ARE STILL OPEN AND LIMITED GROOMING MAY CONTINUE BEYOND THIS WEEKEND IF CONDITIONS PERMIT!!!

WE CONTINUE TO MAINTAIN MID-WINTER CONDITIONS. THE RIDING IS UNBELIEVABLE FOR THIS TIME OF THE YEAR

LOCAL BUSINESS SUPPORTERS AND INDIVIDUALS HAVE DONATED ADDITIONAL MONEY TO HELP US KEEP OUR GROOMERS RUNNING DESPITE THE HIGH COST OF FUEL AND THE INCREDIBLY LONG SEASON.

WE HAVE DONATION BOXES AROUND THE AREA AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE YOUR DONATIONS TO KEEP OUR SPRING GROOMING GOING AS LONG AS POSSIBLE.  THANKS FOR YOUR SUPPORT

***BACK COUNTRY ALERT***

WE NOW HAVE SOME OF THE BEST BACK-COUNTRY, OFF-TRAIL RIDING THAT WE HAVE HAD IN YEARS.  ENJOY!  BUT DO NOT GO ALONE AND PLEASE RESPECT THE LAND YOU RIDE ON

THE EAST KENNEBAGO MOUNTAIN TRAIL IS OPEN.  HOWEVER, BECAUSE OF THE ICE BUILD UP FROM LAST WEEKEND'S RAINS, THERE ARE MANY TREES BENT DOWN INTO THE TRAIL SO THAT THE LAST MILE OF THE TRAIL TO THE SUMMIT CANNOT BE GROOMED UNTIL WE CLEAR THE TREES.  THE TRAIL IS PASSABLE BY SNOWMOBILE.  REMEMBER, THIS IS A DEAD END TRAIL (UP AND BACK)

For those of you who may have limited riding experience, please when you need to stop, pull off the trail where other riders can see you and have room to pass you safely.  Most of all have fun and enjoy the snowmobiling experience.  We appreciate you riding our trails. If you like what we have to offer, please join our club or put a few bucks in a donation box.  It will help to keep our grooming equipment running.

 IMPORTANT TRAIL CLOSINGS

These are never good news but they are facts of snowmobile life in commercial woodlands.

  • The Notch Trail, Flatiron Trail and last years route for ITS 89 using the Bud Russell Road and the woods trails up to East Kennebago Mt. and then north to the Eustis Connector are all closed this season.  ITS 89 is extensively re-routed in the Stratton –Eustis trail system.

 New maps are currently available.

BIG LOOP RIDERS

THIS IS A GOOD TIME TO RIDE THE TRAIL LOOPS IN RANGELEY A FEW MORE TIMES BEFORE THE SEASON ENDS.  THERE IS PLENTY OF SNOW TO OUR EAST AND IT IS A GOOD DAY RIDE FROM RANGELEY ON A SUNNY DAY TO PLACES LIKE GRAND FALLS, COLBURN GORE AND COBURN MOUNTAIN

 WARNING****WARNING

Lake riding is never “safe”

F YOU ARE NOT ABSOLUTELY FAMILIAR WITH THE LAKE YOU MAY TRY TO RIDE, PLEASE USE THE TRAILS.  REMEMBER THAT THE RANGELEY LAKES SNOWMOBILE CLUB HAS NO TRAILS ON ANY LAKES.

LAKES UPDATE

EXTRA CAUTION REQUIRED

OPEN WATER AREAS ARE BEGINNING TO APPEAR IN THE NORMAL PLACES

PEOPLE ARE RIDING RANGELEY LAKE.  MOOSELOOKMEGUNTIC, RICHARDSON AND UMBAGOG LAKES ARE ALL BEING RIDDEN.  MOOSELOOKMEGUNTIC LAKE WAS AT VERY LOW WATER WHEN IT FROZE.  YOU NEED TO BE VERY CAREFUL OF EXPOSED ROCKS AND ROCKS HIDDEN BY SNOW.

DO NOT PARK AND RIDE ON ANY PLOWED ROAD ESPECIALLY AT THE FOUR CORNERS AT THE END OF THE MORTON ROAD. AGAIN THE WARDEN SERVICE IS PATROLLING THAT AREA AND TRUCKING ACTIVITY IS HEAVY.

And please remember:

Maine state law states “no snowmobiling on plowed roads” – it is illegal whether there is a sign posted or not!

Current Trail Conditions

**PLEASE RIDE RESPONSIBLY***

THIS IS THE LAST WEEKEND WE KNOW WE WILL GROOM THE TRAILS. LIMITED GROOMING MAY OCCUR FOR NEXT WEEKEND IF THE WEATHER PERMITS.  TRAIL COVER REMAINS EXCELLENT.

IT IS GETTING BARE AROUND THE GAS STATIONS AND RIGHT IN OQUOSSOC AND AT THE TRAIL CROSSINGS IN RANGELEY.

WE ARE GETTING INTO SPRING CONDITIONS AGAIN WITH COLD NIGHTS AND DAYS ABOVE FREEZING.  IF YOU PLAN TO GET OUT EARLY TO RIDE THERE MAY BE LITTLE IF ANY LOOSE SNOW FOR COOLING SO BE CAREFUL OF OVERHEATING.

NEXT UPDATE - TBD
