River of Fear, Encounters, is a paranormal thriller that is set in Maine's Northwest Mountains (i.e., Rangeley, Stratton, and the Townships in between) during the month of January. It is a blending of some true to life stories that are surrounded by mystery and action (snowmobile and aeronautical). The intrigue quickly unfolds within the first couple of pages as one of the main characters takes an early morning walk with his dog down a snowmobile trail. He sees something that is totally unexplainable, and the tranquility that he loves so much in the Maine woods quickly flows to unnerving.

Former Mainer - businessman turned novelist - transforms paranormal experiences into fiction trilogy.
Former Mainers, Rod Davis and
his wife Elaine have had some fascinating, unexplainable, TRUE
supernatural and paranormal experiences in New England, including Maine's
northwest woods. Rod and Elaine have been a couple for over 43 years, and
their unexplainable encounters started in 1960 while they were teenagers.
Rod explained, "Actually, the first event that happened to Elaine and me
occurred in Connecticut shortly after we began to date. We were parked in
a wooded area that bordered a swamp, and I was approached by three circles
of light that seemed to move with deliberation and intelligence. It scared
us both half to death, and it was just the beginning of a lifetime of
similar unexplainable occurrences." These experiences were so tangible, so intriguing, so disturbing that they didn't want to keep them to themselves, and by sharing their stories with friends and family they hoped to find explanations and answers. Instead, they were most often scoffed at, and sometimes they just received a "Yeah, Right" look. However, when they began sharing these experiences with people outside their circle of friends and family, they found out that they were not alone.
The most recent events occurred during the months of April, May and August of this year. During the months of April and May, Rod experienced incidents of missing time and other strange events that tie in with the missing time. In August, he experienced a mixture of unexplainable events that are still occurring.
Over the years, Rod developed a deep desire to write about Elaine's and his experiences, and in 2002 he wrote the first book of the River of Fear trilogy. River of Fear, Encounters is a paranormal action thriller that unfolds during the month of January in Maine's rural northwest mountains, an area Rod is very familiar with. |
The excitement begins within the first few pages as Rob Day takes an early morning walk with his dog down a snowmobile trail. He sees something that is totally unexplainable, and the tranquility that he loves so much in the Maine woods quickly shifts to unnerving. The reader gets involved through abundant accurate descriptions of mechanical, aerodynamic and modern electronic communications while Rob Day and his friends travel over many of Maine's back roads and trails on their snowmobiles and in their airplanes. (Rod Davis is an avid snowmobiler and pilot.) The characters and the reader encounter powerful, unexplainable forces, eerie sounds, magnetic pulsations and some very strange people! The reader develops the feeling that they are there, and involved with the story as it unfolds around them, especially during a daring rescue effort by Rob Day's pilot friends.
River of Fear brings to the reader's attention that some form of higher life exists around us in other dimensions. It keeps you wondering why, and wanting more in the way of thrills and action-packed adventure. Now that he has written the novel, Rod is meeting more and more people who are anxious to share with him similar experiences. As he and Elaine travel around the country, he is compiling more and more real life stories of the paranormal from the real people they meet. Because of the enthusiasm with which his book and talks have been met, Rod decided to publish a free monthly newsletter, and many people have come forward with their stories. The newsletter, Simply Unexplainable, is available as an e-zine and print newsletter.
