OUR TrailS

Trail/Conditions Update 3.2.22

Well here it is March and it snuck in quietly so hopefully it goes out like a Lion and makes up for the lack of snow to start the season!

That being said trails are really great right now. Some more snow for tonight and later on in the week so we are looking good. Great solid packed surfaces with a few icy corners on the open trails where sun can get into melt the snow then freezes up overnight. Groomers went out monday night but took tuesday off. We’ve been grooming and plan to continue grooming 6 nights a week until run out of snow.

Please STAY OFF OF ALL PLOWED ROADS including but not limited to: Morton Cut, Lincoln Pond Rd, Wiggle Brook and Tim Pond Road. Logging operations will be continuing throughout the weekends so it is extremely important that we all stay off of them with vehicles and obviously with sleds.

Clarkie’s Pig Roast is on for March 12th.

Our annual Live Auction and Cocktail party is March 26th. Visit the club’s web site for tickets and info.

As always stay to the right, ride safe and have fun out there!

Trail/Conditions Update 2.23.22:

Trail update 2/23/22: Well good news, bad news time. It's getting colder by the second, kind of like the wife's heart when you forget her birthday..... Some of the crew did a quick trail survey and there is too much moisture to send the groomers out tonight. We will resume grooming Thursday pm if all goes well with mother nature gets it cold enough.
As far as riding tomorrow (Thursday 24th) By all means it will be cold enough to ride tomorrow, so go for a cruise, BUT if you go out PLEASE be careful, like sneaking in the house at 2am careful. There is a chance of water hazards or as I now call them "Watah Features." There is also alot of standing water on the lakes so use caution.
There is snow coming Friday and the long term forecast looks promising so don't give up yet!
ITS 84 on Boy Scout Rd/ Koobs Pit area Reroute when crossing Rt 16 from Oquossoc village bare to the right, when coming from 108 connector bare to the left after the plowed section. YIELD to the loggers, they are nice enough to lets use that area, DO NOT MESS IT UP!
NO LAKE ACCESS at Sammoset Circle due to new land owner, trail starts at South Shore Rd.
PLEASE FOLKS JOIN THE CLUB and drop that change in the green boxes, between groomer repairs & fuel prices we are fighting an uphill battle. Side note we are now a 501c3 Non profit so your donations are tax deductible!
Thank you to our members & sponsors you are the best, we couldn't do it without you!

Trail/Conditions Update 2.18.22

Hey club! First thank you to everyone who respected our request and stayed off the trails yesterday! I know it's painful to not ride, but to the folks who stayed off you made a huge difference & it will allow the groomers to cover more ground when they go out.
So on to the trails: Temps are dropping quicker then crypto! We still have a ton of moisture in the snow and need to let them cool down before the tractors can go out. We are hoping to send the groomers out late afternoon after the cold sets in. PLEASE tread lightly if you come across a fresh groomed trail, the longer we wait to get on the trails the better the groom will hold. Also remember groomers have the right of way so be respectful & thank a groomer.
A couple of quick notes:
~It's school vacation week starting tomorrow, please be mindful on the trails. Expect traffic and stay on your side!
~Trail changes: ITS 89 North into Stratton (Trail goes past East Kennebago access trail) is now open. Samoset Trail is closed from South Shore Drive crossing to the lake. The Big Canyon / Wiggle Brook trail (RZ2I to TR3) is still closed.
~All 170+ miles will not be groomed before Saturday, just no way so be patient, our groomer crew is top shelf and will do their best.
~Be careful on the lakes, with the warm up they could be messy! As usual be careful of pressure ridges & proceed with caution.
~The long term forecast is more jaded then asking your ex for relationship advice, please keep in mind the less traffic on warm days, the better the trails will hold up.
~We still have 1 groomer down, hopefully will be back up next week. Unfortunately it had to hauled to Pisten Bully. Thank you Blaine Williams for the tow!

Trail/Conditions Update: Tuesday 2.15.22

Hey club, this season has had it's challenges for sure!
First the groomers have hit it hard Sunday & last night and will keep going out as they can this week, but PLEASE watch the weather folks. Our crystal ball is shattered and no one knows what will happen with Thursdays warm up. That being said if it goes warm (don't even want to say the "r" word) and then goes cold Friday there is no way to hit every trail Friday, some won't get hit until Saturday pm. As usual they will do their best. If the "R" word happens please try to not ride. I know it sucks, but less sleds during the rain, the better and the base will hold better.
Please remember if it goes above freezing "the groom" doesn't hold. Perfect example last Friday 4 groomers went out, Sat am it was above freezing and by noon every trail that had been groomed didn't look it between traffic & weather.
We will update when we can Thursday or Friday.
Since we opened the trails we have been grooming 6 or 7 nights a week, please stop asking if & when. In the last 14 days we have had 4 or 5 breakdowns, when that happens it usually involves another groomer to rescue. The groomer that we hauled out Sunday hopefully will be back up for the weekend.
Town access trails are seeing huge traffic counts between park & rides and business access, so please use caution. The Stratton trail past East Kennebago access is STILL WEEKENDS only. We will post as soon as it is open 7 days a week.
SAMOSET TRAIL is closed from South Shore to the lake due to change in landowners. We have been working on this and are unable to secure further permission needed to Samoset Circle. DO NOT USE 2 Rod Road!! I repeat do not use 2 Rod Road! The groomer will be turning around at the "Old Racetrack."
I need to thank our groomer staff that have been burning both ends. Also a huge thanks to out to trail masters Mike K & Mike F. Matt also has literally burnt both ends of his candle too with about 90 hours last week between grooming & break downs.
Thank you to our members for your support, we truly love you guys & gals and hopefully we get mother nature to cooperate and can have a great rest of the season.

Trail/Conditions Update: Friday 2.11.22

Hey club here’s a quick trail update 2.11.22:
First we have reports of standing water and several hazards on Haley Pond so be careful. On Rangeley Lake the pressure ridge outside town cove is back. Reminder to use caution on any body of water after these warm temps.
On to the trails: The crew has been grooming every night, BUT the temperatures are killing us! The forecast looks like a Kardashian divorce (WICKED MESSY.) Mike and Matt are watching the temps and weather closely, but even if we get out, the trails most likely won’t hold up well with no time to set. I know most know this, but keep in mind we can’t groom if it’s above freezing.
PLEASE if you ride try to tread lightly

Trail/Conditions Update: Friday 1.28.22

Hey Club HAPPY FRIDAY time for a trail conditions update. Every trail in the system has been groomed in the past few days thanks to the work of our incredible groomer staff. Considering the lack of snow we’ve had the feedback on the trail conditions has been excellent! The high moisture content of the snow last week packed very well so we have a nice flat base to work with now. Please be cautious of hazards in the woods as we are still dealing with “early season” conditions. Also be very cautious of the pressure ridges on Rangeley and Mooselook Lakes.

Now with the timeline of the upcoming storm we may be sending groomers out during the day Saturday and Sunday so please be VERY cautious of their presence on the trails and remember GROOMERS HAVE THE RIGHT OF WAY. Stop, move as far to the side of the trail as you are comfortable with and let the groomer pass!
Please don’t forget about the trail closures and updates. Tim Pond Road and Wiggle Brook are CLOSED FOR THE SEASON as are ALL OTHER PLOWED ROADS. The connector to Stratton/Eustis past East Kennebago Mtn is ONLY OPEN Friday at 5pm to Sunday midnight. The Canyon/Langtown connection to Stratton/Eustis is open all the time and is a fun winding trail that hugs the back side of the mtn and is definitely worth checking out!

Other than that stay right, don’t stop in the middle of an intersection and be respectful to other riders:)

Trail/Conditions Update: 1.25.22

We received about 2" of snow. Rider feedback has been great considering the snow levels. The groomers are trying their best to keep them flat without stripping the snow. Wooded sections tend to have thin spots along with corners so please be careful. Honestly the wooded sections good use more snow. I would still consider it early season riding conditions. Before Friday every trail in the system will have been groomed if all goes well. We will update at the end of the week. Stay off the plowed roads, sidewalks & closed areas!
Please see the map update post to update your maps ie: Big Canyon / Wiggle Brook to Tim Pond Closed for season, Trail past East Kennebago access trail (89) is only Open Friday after 5p - Sunday midnight) Go to R12 (lower route) to Eustis/Stratton)
Thank you!
Picture
ALL Trails are currently OPEN
We did receive 6-8" of snow, Monday Jan 17, however please allow the groomers to get out and groom tomorrow. We will open trails Wednesday January 19, 2022

NO LAKE IS EVER "SAFE"!

Please do not attempt to walk, ski or ride snowmobiles on the lakes unless you are absolutely sure that the ice conditions will support you
and your equipment.  Rangeley has plenty of trails on land for snowmobiling, skiing, snowshoeing and walking.  If you must ride on the lakes,
please use caution.
